MAD RAD AT THE COMET 5/29/09

this is Out For Stardom photographer Tyler(squintz)from Rabid Child Images. what an epic SOLD OUT show! it was crazy man. i fell a few times getting these pics and busted a piece of the lens hood off of my lens (it still works, though). also if you notice any blurry spots that is most likely the beer that got splashed on my lens. i had a great time and i hope mad rad crowds don't get any crazier than this! sorry to the other bands that i am sure were great, i arived a little too late to shoot all of the bands.

(Comet) This just in: The Comet is a great place to see a show, particularly if the act you're seeing has a reputation for being feral. Mad Rad weren't raised by wolves per se, but they do seem a little unable to play by the rules. Their hiphop only barely sounds like hiphop. Their songs have all sorts of extra stuff in them—airplanes flying overhead, Santigold-ish wailing that turns out to be one of the guys' falsetto. They are three white guys in colorful clothes. There will be jumping around. Tables will be stood on. Things will be spilled. CHRISTOPHER FRIZZELLE"

So I doodled this for us three white guys with colorful clothes.

Why does all the press keep focusing on us being white?? And do they NOT see Darwin?!

Then onto Portland where we play with Jaguar Love @The Rotture, and then onto afterparty with White Motherfuckin' Fang at The Meat Factory.


So much color!! Ahh the insanity!

Sasquatch Photos Day One

While everyone else was enjoying day one of Sasquatch, we decided to stay the hell away from the madness. We ended up camping an hour east of The Gorge, and I must say it was truly a beautiful relaxing evening with gorgeous people. The forever glowing Mary Kalhor gave me some of her favorites.

Wow!! What a weekend!! I was not there for Champagne Champagne unfortunately, and missed a lot of the shows I wanted to see on Sunday and Monday, but none the less it was a weekend filled with laughter, boozing, amazing music, and great people. Tonight in Fremont two great shows on the same street. First Fresh Espresso at High Dive, then run over for Mad Rad at Nectar Lounge. Someone bring Peter a Gatorade he might need it.

Mudede on Fresh Espresso

Hi,

I'm P SMOOV .
I woke this morning to coffee in my cup and the latest stranger in my hands.
I flipped to the music section to see a full page article on my band Fresh Espresso.
Needless to say I was excited to see what the great Charles Mudede would write about our group and our record.

THE ARTICLE (click to read)

As I read, I was horrified to see that the whole article hinged on lyrics that I wrote and performed on a song called, "Something New". The problem is Mudede credited these lyrics to Rik Rude and proceeded to misquote rik with my lyrics 2 more times in this article.


He also said that our record was "untitled" even though we repeatedly told him the name of it is "Glamour". And he said that O C Notes was in the mind movers (he isn't).
I am dissapointed at the lack of tought and investigation that went into this article. I am a huge fan of Charles Mudede, and I am shocked at how amature this journalism appears to be.

I spoke to Mudede via email and he apologized for any incorrect information and he promptly changed the online version of the publication.

Mad Rad Gets Served!

Hi,

I'm P Smoov.

Yeah, so we got subpoenaed on Saturday before our set at the mix in Georgetown.



Jonathan Cunningham over at Seattle Weekly reported it like this:

"This past Saturday night, I went to the Mix bar down in Georgetown to check out a Mad Rad show. Like all Mad Rad gigs, lots of shenanigans and mayhem ensued. Buffalo Madonna was sweating like he just climbed a mountain, P Smoov was bouncing all over the stage getting cheers from the ladies, and Terry Radjaw was anchoring it all with solid vocals and a few trips into the audience to keep people riled up. The boys had every reason to let off steam that night. Just an hour or two before I showed up, someone paid Mad Rad a visit.

According to P Smoov and Buffalo, a casually dressed man in all black was at the show a little early and wanted to learn more about who was in the group. "He comes up to me and goes, 'you're in Mad Rad right? What's your name man?'" P-Smoov said sort of laughing after the Saturday night gig. "So I go, yeah man, my name is Peter... what's up? And he goes, 'yo, you just got served' and walked out of the bar! Damn. The owner of Amante's Pizza is suing, yes that's right, suing Mad Rad because someone on their promo team put up a wheat paste Mad Rad poster on the side of an Amante's on Capitol Hill a year ago. The owner initially reached out to the band to have them remove the posters personally, but according to the band members they were on tour in Connecticut at the time and couldn't do it. They claim they were very polite via phone and promised to take care of it as soon as they returned home. That wasn't good enough and the owner said if it wasn't removed immediately, he was going to sue. Well, he just did to the tune of $500. And Mad Rad is naturally upset about it.

But at the same time, they've got a sense of humor as well. "I just think it was funny the way we got served," Buffalo said laughing after the show. "[The server] totally did his research, knew who we were, dressed the part and everything. Pretended to be a fan of our music and then bam, fucking served us with papers."

When asked if they plan to fight it, they said no. The $500 is for the cost of paint the owner of Amante's allegedly used to fix the damages, and Mad Rad is just going to pony up the money and pay him. Even though they highly doubt he incurred $500 worth of damages due to a few posters on the side of his building. If you want to help them raise the cash to pay off their latest legal debt, Fresh Espresso (P Smoov's side project) is playing a show this Friday, May 8th at the the High Dive. Later that night, Mad Rad play a show at Nectar. If you are a fan of their music, you're sort of getting a two for one."
