Keyboard Kid x Based Soul

BASED-SOUL

If you’re in any way familiar with the sounds of Lil B The Based God, then it’s metaphysically impossible that you haven’t heard or seen the sounds of producer Keyboard Kid.

Considered “one of modern hip hop’s most influential producers” by FACT Magazine (whose interview with him here is a must) and “the Pharrell of Based” by the Guardian, BasedWorld’s official president and Lil B’s “main producer” is keen to make 2012 his following the success of that other otherworldly Based sound architect Clams Casino.

It’s important to remember that you can’t be one of the most prolific rappers in the history of the world without working with producers who are equally as prolific.

Through sheer numbers alone, Keyboard Kid has created his own artist development bubble, finding and perfecting the ability over several projects to cross and splice genres – from the “shrill, maximalist techno freakery crossed with Wagnerian synth und drang” of Cosmonaut to Based Treasure, where he “ takes old soul and funk samples, chops and screws them and basicallrey makes them sound like the Stylistics in space, or Barry White put in a blender with Tyler, the Creator” - and constantly leave you guessing.

His Transitions EP, just released on UK label Donky Pitch to critical acclaim, was an amplified, fragmented version of the former, while his latest project ‘Based Soul’, which Southern Hospitality is hugely excited to offer to the world, might just be some of his most epic work to date, drawing from classic hip-hop samples and giving them the power, sheen and reinterpretation they’ve been aching for.

‘Based Soul’ is available for free download below. We truly hope you enjoy.

Houses Remix

Seattle's NW Based God and long time Lil B producer Keyboard Kid takes his hand to remix Katie Kate's Houses, off her new record Flatland released on Out For Stardom. Keyboard flips the original version into sonic spaceflight. Full of warm bass tones, frantic hi hats and moody synth lines that have come to represent the new 'Cloud Rap' movement. Katie Kate's vocals are drawn out and at times inaudible, but create a whole new spacious edge to the already emotive feeling of the original.

Lil B 'White Flame' Mixtape

Photobucket

After weeks of teasing, Lil B finally drops White Flame, showcasing his re-embrace of darkness. The tape’s Soulja Slim-referencing cover art is by far the best in B’s Flame series (Red Flame, Black Flame and Red Flame Evil Edition, among others), and it finds the Based God mixing No Limit-leaning throwbacks (“Fuck that Sucka,” “Bitch of the City,” “I’m Fabio”) and soulful pathos (“Surrender to Me,” “Neva Switch,” “I’m Down 4 Hire”). Keep an ear out for “Fed Time,” which samples Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U” Shouts to Keyboard Kid for handling a good chunck of the production work.

'OMG LIL B IS BACK BEING EVIL FOR SOME REASON HES REACHED A LEVEL ’2nd LEVEL BASED DEMI GOD’ THIS IS NOT GOOD' - Lil B

'WOW THIS IS RARE LIL B IS GOING THROUGH A RARE PROCESS IN BASEDWORLD, HE HAS REACHED A LEVEL I MUST I DONT NO IF ITS GOOD OR BAD RIGHT NOW… BASEDWORLD STAY POSITIVE THATS THE ONLY WAY LIL B WILL GET BACK TO NORMAL' – Lil B

Keyboard Kid 'The Mind Is So Complex When Your Based'

Photobucket

After finding out that the based god Lil B's producer was based here in Seattle, I had to find out who he was. Enter Keyboard Kid. The 25 year old has made quite a name for himself already. Besides making hits for Lil B, Kid has been on his grind dropping mixtape after mixtape. My favorite so far has to be the aptly named, Video Games & Blunts. A trip into the new experimental hip hop sound that has been floating around, i.e. Clams Casino, Zomby, etc. Keyboard Kids beats represent a coup d'état of the old guard of hip hop. Fuzzy / Unmixed / Trap / Future Juke / Codine Influenced tracks. This new tape, curated for URB Magazine which features Kid blending 30 min of original material into a 'based' rap instrumental affair.

DL my favorite cut of the moment. Appearing on Video Games & Blunts. Digital Trap Music. 4 real. Slapper Approved. Based. Alien Technology (Mediafire Link)
