Hype Williams 'One Nation'

Photobucket

Last week I (finally..) stumbled on to Roy Blunt (aka Roy Nnawuchi) and Inga Copeland, a duo from Hackney and Estonia that are the psychedelic redefinition of lo-fi known as Hype Williams. Enigmatic and deliberately elusive, their name was blatantly stolen from famed video director and their style defies any attempt at traditional classification. It is an impossible puzzle of low quality sounds, twisted rhythms, electronic noise, slices of pop culture and acid humour which against all the odds, has received unceasing acclaim from the specialist critics. The LP I have been into the most is "One Nation', released on Hippos In a Tank is a testament to the term bedroom producer. Also have been feeling there most recent release on Kode 9's Hyperdub label. Entitled Kelly Price w8 gain ep vol II is a great continuation in the vein of not only their established and quirky musical style, but also their zero-day pop-culture-rip-off naming policy. Gwan.
